What we did<\/h2>\n
We selected the top three biggest cities in each state and up to the fifth largest if it had a population of over 100,000. Then, we searched all-time volunteer fundraising campaigns on GoFundMe.com for each city and retrieved the total amount raised. Next, we aggregated the data by location, taking the total number of campaigns and the median amount of funds raised by campaign.<\/p>\n

First, we calculated the median amount of funds raised per fundraiser in each state. The state with the highest median is New York ($2,384).
