Earn Spending Money with Crowdsourced Labor Apps

Crowdsource Labor

Our YOUconomy series has seen people rent extra rooms, teach classes, and even keep an eye on the neighbor’s dog to earn a bit of extra spending money when times are tight.

Yet another option for making a few bucks is to help businesses out with tasks that they need a real, live person to complete. Projects and tasks like compliance reviews, taking display photos and price checks all require a person to physically go to a location.

To meet this need, a few GPS-enabled mobile apps are now connecting these businesses with users willing to complete these tasks for a fee. While you should always do your own due diligence before completing jobs for a business, these three apps might be worth perusing for easy earning opportunities in your area.

EasyShift

What is it?

EasyShift is an iPhone app that lets users complete “shifts” or assignments from companies. Some shifts are simple surveys, while others require users to travel to a specific location to complete a task, before completing the required survey. Browse the map to find and reserve shifts near you.

Fees for each shift are specified in the job description, and payments are processed via PayPal. EasyShift also incorporates a points system – the more points you have, the better your reputation and the earlier you can reserve shifts.

Gigwalk

What is it?

Gigwalk is another smartphone app that connects users with companies who need to complete location-based tasks, which can include inspections, collections, interviews, mystery shopping duties and more. Many of the tasks require users to use Microsoft’s Photosynth app to take an interactive panorama shot of a business. Gigs can be found in map or list format, and each requires a quick application process – in most cases this is a click of the “Quick Apply” button plus an estimate of the time it will take you to complete the task.

A recent investigation of Gigwalk postings indicated that most of the gigs were in the $5 range, but these gig compensations will vary according to the business’ preferences.

Field Agent

What is it?

Field Agent is an iPhone app (sorry Android users) that enables everyday people to put their smartphones to work for businesses in need of location-based information. After downloading the app, users can browse nearby jobs, each of which will have a description about what the task entails.

How much money can I make?

Jobs typically pay between $3 and $12, and money is stored within your Field Agent account until you transfer it to a PayPal account.
